A tiny plan for your day

Estimated time: 5 min to prepare · 12 min to plant · 3 min to tidy. Then wait about 12 weeks. Plus waiting time: 12 weeks. It's fine to stop early.

Before you start

What you’ll need

  • A sturdy potato grow bag or large tub with drainage holes
  • Compost
  • Two or three seed potatoes

Let's begin

Five simple steps

That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.

  1. Fill the bag a third full with compost.

  2. Little one leads

Your child places the potatoes on top, shoots facing up.

  3. Cover with more compost.

  4. Water, and add more compost as the leaves grow.

  5. When the plant flowers and dies back, tip the bag out and hunt for potatoes!

All done!

That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
