A tiny plan for your day

Estimated time: 5 min to prepare · 12 min to plant · 3 min to tidy. Then water and watch. It's fine to stop early.

Before you start

What you’ll need

  • An old bowl, tin or pot with holes in the bottom
  • Peat-free compost
  • A pollinator-friendly plant, like marigold, cosmos or catmint
  • A watering can, or a milk bottle with holes in the lid

Let's begin

Five simple steps

That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.

  1. Little one leads

Your child fills the pot with compost.

  2. Make a hole in the middle.

  3. Pop the plant in and press the soil gently around it.

  4. Water the soil, not the flowers.

  5. Put it somewhere sunny and watch for buzzing visitors.

All done!

That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
