Little journey sticks
Turn a walk into a story you can hold. Collect a little treasure at each part of your walk, then tell the story back together.
*Illustrative age guidance. Your child's development and circumstances matter more than a number.

A tiny plan for your day
Estimated time: 5 min to prepare · 20 min to explore · 5 min to tidy. It's fine to stop early.
Before you start
What you’ll need
- One short, smooth stick, about the length of your child's forearm, checked by an adult
- Wool or masking tape
Let's begin
Four simple steps
That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.
- Grown-up job
An adult wraps a few loops of wool or tape around the stick, leaving gaps to tuck things into.
As you walk, your child chooses one small treasure for each new part of the walk, such as a feather by the gate or a leaf by the big tree.
Tuck each treasure under the wool, in order.
- Together
At home, read the stick from one end to the other and tell the story of your walk together.
That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
