Cosy nest makers

Could you build a home like a bird? Make a little nest using only your finger and thumb, just like a beak.

A tiny plan for your day

Estimated time: 2 min to prepare · 15 min to build · 3 min to tidy. It's fine to stop early.

Before you start

What you’ll need

  • Grass, moss, small twigs and soft dry leaves
  • A conker or smooth pebble as a pretend egg

Let's begin

Five simple steps

That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.

  1. Talk about how birds only have a beak to build with.

  2. Little one leads

Your child collects materials using just their finger and thumb.

  3. Shape a little cup that fits in two hands, twigs on the outside.

  4. Line it with something soft, like moss.

  5. Pop the "egg" in and give it a gentle wobble. Does it stay?

All done!

That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
