A tiny plan for your day

Estimated time: 4 min to set up · 10 min to play · 1 min to tidy. It's fine to stop early.

Before you start

What you’ll need

  • Pretend beaks: a clothes peg, kitchen tongs, a spoon, a straw
  • Pretend bird food in bowls: dry pasta, cereal hoops, water, cooked spaghetti "worms"
  • An empty bowl for each player

Let's begin

Five simple steps

That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.

  1. Choose a beak.

  2. Try picking up each type of food and moving it to your bowl.

  3. Which beak is best for the worms? For the water?

  4. Swap beaks and try again.

  5. Talk about real birds. Who has a long beak? A short, strong one?

All done!

That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
