A tiny plan for your day

Estimated time: 5 min to prepare · 15 min to explore · 5 min to tidy. It's fine to stop early.

Before you start

What you’ll need

  • A clear plastic bottle, cut in half by an adult
  • Small stones, sand, grass and a piece of kitchen roll
  • A jug of muddy water

Let's begin

Five simple steps

That's the whole activity. Tick each step off as you go, and stop whenever you like.

  1. Turn the top half of the bottle upside down into the bottom half, like a funnel.

  2. Little one leads

Your child layers it: kitchen roll, then sand, then small stones, then grass.

  3. Slowly pour in the muddy water.

  4. Watch it drip through. Is it cleaner?

  5. Compare it with the muddy water in the jug.

All done!

That's every step. However it went, you made a little moment together.
